UNPREDICTABLE Salford could be a dangerous prospect for Huddersfield this Sunday in Manchester.

Their remit for this season seems simple: to finish in the play-offs for the second time in their Super League history.

But with competition to get in the top eight tougher than ever, the Reds just seem to be moving in the wrong direction at the wrong time with their competitors around them going clear.

After last week’s last-gasp draw against Bradford, they now look to be at last-chance saloon, with Leeds currently sitting five points clear in the final top-eight spot.

They will take heart from their performance against the Bulls, though, with Daniel Holdsworth’s late touchline conversion attempt just drifting wide of the uprights in a game where they did have chances to cut the deficit.

Both Holdsworth and Matty Smith, as well as full back Luke Patten, will be looking to guide the rest of Salford’s starting string to step up another level in this encounter.

And, as a trio, there are not many better partnerships in the division.

They clearly are not the problem with the Reds at the minute and if they can inspire the rest of their teammates to play to their best, they will no doubt give the Giants a tough test.

AUSTRALIAN Joel Moon could have the tricks up his sleeve to guide Salford to victory against the Giants at the Magic Weekend.

The former NRL star was performing well for the New Zealand Warriors on the side’s way to the Grand Final last season and was snapped up by the Reds on a two-year deal.

Since his arrival on these shores, the Queenslander has lit up Super League with his flair and outrageous off-loading skills.

His form has impressed in-coming Exiles coach Daniel Anderson and Moon will be looking to keep that form up heading into the Antipodean training camp with another dazzling display against Huddersfield.

PHIL VEIVERS has done a top job for the City Reds this season under difficult circumstances.

The club lost previous coach Matt Parish in the off-season and the former Giant was left to pick up the pieces for the second time.

With the task of guiding them into a new stadium, he has so far presided over a hit-and-miss Super League campaign.

Veivers will be looking to guide Salford to success in neighbouring Manchester this weekend to help raise awareness of rugby league in the city, as well as raise his side’s play-off chances at the same time.
