HUDDERSFIELD Giants utility back Jamie Simpson is returning to Australia.

The 25-year-old former South Sydney centre has agreed an early release from his Galpharm contract after making just seven appearances for the Super League club.

Simpson – who survived cancer as a teenager and has done inspirational work to help youngsters with the disease – is already in talks to resume his career in Australia’s NRL.

Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis explained: “I expect to see Jamie quickly return to the NRL scene.

“He leaves us with our very best wishes for the future and thanks for his time with us.”

Simpson, who joined the Giants in February, was out for four months following major shoulder surgery after an injury against Catalans Dragons in April.

He returned against Salford in August and then featured in coach Nathan Brown’s squad just once more.

The Giants now have just three ‘non-federation trained’ (formerly overseas quota) players on their books in David Fa’alogo, Luke O’Donnell and David Faiumu.

Recent signing Jason Chan is not on the list under provisions made at his former club Crusaders, even though he was born in Sydney and has played internationally for Papua New Guinea.
