Former Huddersfield RL stars will be out in force when the Giants host Warrington Wolves in their designated Heritage Game this weekend.

Several activities to celebrate 120 years of rugby league will take place during Sunday’s big Super League clash at the John Smith’s Stadium, with over 70 ex-players ready to take centre stage.

Among those who have accepted an invite to be there are Paul Dixon, David Faiumu, Jeff Wittenberg, Nick Fozzard, Gary Senior, Paul Reilly, Darren Fleary, Andy Raleigh, Lee St Hilaire, Joe Naidole, Johnny Lawless and Ian Thomas.

They will be mingling with the fans before and after the top-flight clash, as well as taking part in a half-time parae around the stadium pitch.

Other activities of a nostalgic nature will take place on the day, with Giants marketing chief James Brammer confident the occasion will prove a big hit, especially if Huddersfield can secuire a victory over Warrington which will keep them in Super League’s top six.

“We’re looking for as many people as possible in the town to embrace this very special event,” said Brammer.

“The match in itself promises to be an absolutely cracker.

“Not only would a win help us complete a first double over Warrington for a number of seasons, it would also help us cement a place in the top four.

“But with so many former Huddersfield favourites going to be around on the day, it’s going to make our Heritage Game even more special.”

Warrington second rower Ben Westwood, meanwhile, could miss Sunday’s clash at the Giants after being told he faces a grade B charge of making dangerous contact on Catalans Dragons forward Jason Baitieri during the Wolves’ 26-18 win on Friday night.

Westwood, who is facing a one-match ban, was the only player cited by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel from round 17 of Super League and has until 11am today to submit an early-guilty plea and avoid a disciplinary hearing.

Widnes captain and ex-Giant Kevin Brown has been named the Super League Player of the Month for May.
