Beleaguered Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson doesn’t expect to have any of his injured senior players available for their next Super League XXI clash at home to Widnes Vikings on Sunday week.

Danny Brough (dead leg) Eorl Crabtree (groin), Scott Grix (shoulder), Craig Huby (hand), Jared Simpson (ankle), Joe Wardle (quad) and Kyle Wood (quad) were all missing for Huddersfield’s heartbreaking 18-13 home top-flight defeat to Wigan.

The head coach expects the majority of them to be back in action in around a month’s time, with Grix (four months) the major exception.

But Anderson admits he may have to keep faith with the same 17 who battled so well against the Warriors the other night – whether he likes it or not.

“We’re not expecting to see any of our injured boys back against Widnes, even though the match is still a bit away,” he confirmed.

“We’ve got some pretty concrete times on some of their returns, while it’s a case of ‘how long’s a piece of string?’ with Broughy’s injury.

“He took an almighty whack to the leg at St Helens, and he was in some of the most pain he’s ever experienced.

“So, at this stage, it’s not looking to good for him, either.”
