Paul Anderson expects Huddersfield Giants’ youngsters to throw down the gauntlet when they tackle top Championship club Halifax at The Shay next Sunday.

Huddersfield embark on their three-game pre-season programme with the short trip to their West Yorkshire rivals in six days’ time.

Giants head coach Anderson has confirmed next weekend is the chance for the club’s rising stars to take centre stage, before the ‘big guns’ are wheeled out for the clash at Hull KR the following Sunday and home date with Catalans Dragons six days later.

And the John Smith’s Stadium boss is looking for the youngsters to set down a marker.

“This is the Giants’ first game in 2006 and I’m looking for the players to set the right example,” said Anderson.

“It’s the chance for them to shine.

“All of the coaching staff are looking for the young guys to go out there with the right attitude and produce a performance full of commitment and enthusiasm.

“If they do that, they know they won’t have let anyone down and will have set an example which we’d then expect the senior players to follow.”
