WHEN Andy Raleigh looks back on his time at the Giants, it’s great memories all the way!

The 30-year-old may have left for Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in a bid to secure far more game-time than he’s had at the Giants over the past couple of seasons.

But despite the obvious frustration of not being able to hold down a regular Super League spot at his hometown club, that hasn’t taken any real gloss off his six years at the Galpharm.

In fact, his main emotion as he packs his bags and heads for Belle Vue, is how lucky he has been to wear the famous claret and gold.

“It’s been an incredible six years, and I wouldn’t have swapped it for the world,” said utility forward Raleigh, who joined the Giants from Hull KR in 2006.

“During my time here, I’ve played in a Challenge Cup final, helped the Giants reach the Super League play-offs for the first time and been part of so many other memorable games for the club.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a Huddersfield club that’s continued to rise as a top power in the game, and as someone who comes from the town I couldn’t be prouder.

“It has been a bit tough over the past few years, because I’d have loved to have had more game-time. But such is the strength of the squad that there is here now, that was always going to be a tough ask, and injuries haven’t helped either.

“As a result, this hasn’t affected the way I feel about my time here. All my memories have been positive ones.”

And Raleigh admits he’s spoilt for choice when he tries to pick out his highlights.

“That’s a really tough one, there have just been so many,” he added.

“The obvious one is the 2006 Challenge Cup final, although the semi-final win over Leeds at Odsal was a better feeling.

“Then there’s that first Giants’ play-off game at Hull the following season.

“I’d had a good year that year and I felt I’d played well in the play-off game itself, as well.

“And (then England coach) Tony Smith must also have thought so, because he rang me a few days after the game and said I was part of his plans.

“Unfortunately, I missed out in the end, but it was still great to know I was in the frame.

“That was a great individual highlight, although it got even better in 2008 when I was named the Players’ Player of the Year, the Squadbuilder Man of Steel, Top Tackler and Supporters Player of the Year.

“Yes, it’s not been a bad six years at all!”
