HUDDERSFIELD Giants' England star Leroy Cudjoe is delighted the club will have the chance to bounce back from their fifth Super League XVIII defeat of the season against reigning champions Leeds Rhinos.

Second-placed Huddersfield Giants are still smarting from Friday’s surprise 35-28 defeat at Hull KR , and will have to dwell on that loss until they host the Rhinos on Sunday week.

That’s because Super League takes a break to accommodate Friday’s Origin Test between England and the Exiles at Warrington.

The Giants’ strike centre Cudjoe will feature in that match, but he’s also already thinking about his next game for his hometown club and desperate to repeat his man-of-the-match heroics which helped Huddersfield knock Leeds out of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup at the John Smith’s Stadium a month ago.

“When you’ve just suffered a defeat your first thought is always to get straight back up again and try and get back to winning ways as quickly as possible,” said Cudjoe, who scored two first-half tries in the Hull KR defeat.

“It’s a shame we can’t try and do it this weekend. The boys are all gutted about that.

“But it’s good that when we do get that chance it’s going to be against Leeds, because our recent record against them is really decent.

“It’s a few years since they beat us, home or away.

“We usually seem to be able to raise our game against them and put in really solid performances.

“That’s obviously not been the case over the past few weeks, so hopefully this is just the game we need to help us get back to some of our best form.”

Cudjoe has now gone into camp with the rest of the England squad ahead of Friday’s one-off clash against the cream of the overseas players competing in Super League.

It’s this year’s only England warm-up game ahead of the autumn RL World Cup.

And Cudjoe knows how important Friday’s fixture is.

“I’m desperate to play in the World Cup,” added Cudjoe, who is joined in the England squad this week by Giants teammates Eorl Crabtree and Brett Ferres.

“But I know there are a lot of quality England centres out there.

“Fortunately for me, I’ve got the chance to put myself at the front of the queue if I play well on Friday, so it’s a massive game for everyone who plays.”
