NEW Giant Gregg McNally has arrived in Huddersfield and teamed up with Cumbrian colleague Shaun Lunt to become housemates.

The 19-year-old scrum half signed for the Super League side from Whitehaven at the start of last season and was immediately loaned back to the Co-Operative Championship club.

But once Haven’s season came to an end McNally began training with the Giants during the week and stayed at the house of big Huddersfield fan Janice Manby.

Now, however, he is setting up permanent residence in Waterloo with former Workington player Lunt, and is delighted to have a fellow Cumbrian by his side.

“Moving away from Whitehaven for the first time was quite a daunting prospect,” said McNally.

“But the fact I was made so welcome by everyone at the club from day one has made everything so much easier.

“I enjoyed training with the rest of the boys towards the end of last season and I’ve already been training with them ahead of the start of pre-season training next week, and I’m really excited about that.

“We’re already settled in the house and it means we’re all set for next week without any other distractions.”

Finding a permanent housemate is also good news for exciting hooker Lunt, who can finally lose the nomadic tag that has followed him around for most of 2009.

When he first signed for the Giants, he stayed with friends in Leeds before going on to lodge with his father (twice) in Dewsbury, Huddersfield head conditioner Mark Andrews and teammates Kevin Brown, Jamahl Lolesi and Liam Fulton.

And Lunt is sure McNally will make the ideal housemate.

“Although we’re both from Cumbria we didn’t know each other until Gregg came down here,” said the 22-year-old.

“Obviously, it’s now a different matter. As well as having similar accents, we both know the Cumbria area well and that helped us strike up an immediate friendship.

“This arrangement couldn’t suit us any better.”
