Huddersfield Giants chief Paul Anderson is hoping a major backline selection headache could be just around the corner.

Huddersfield secured their sixth-round Ladbrokes Challenge Cup triumph without injured duo Jamie Ellis and Scott Grix, and Gene Ormsby, who had returned to parent club Warrington Wolves for the weekend following his month’s loan at the John Smith’s Stadium.

But with half-back Ellis and full-back Grix rapidly closing in on their returns after major shoulder problems and winger Ormsby still in the frame to return to Huddersfield for a second loan spell, Anderson is hoping his backline options could soon be increased significantly.

“All being well, we’ll start to get more players coming back into the equation,” said Anderson, whose side is preparing to travel to the South of France for Saturday’s tough Super League XXI clash against second-placed Catalans Dragons.

“We’ve made no secret of our desire to bring Gene Ormsby back to the club, while Jamie and Scott are now training with the rest of the boys.

“And with (full-back) Jared Simpson looking in good shape in training and (centre) Sam Wood continuing to go well, which is why he was in our 17 for last Friday’s Cup win over Leeds, we’re hoping we’ll very soon have a lot more options available to us.”
