So the Wagstaff Trophy was presented to…

…no-one!

In third place was Shaun Lunt, second was Joe Wardle, and the winner, for the third successive year was Danny Brough.

However, Danny forgot to return the trophy, so he had to make do with a shake of hands with our representative, Mick Beevers.

That took place at the Giants Player of the Year Awards Evening, which was a huge success. The Revell Ward Suite was packed and a good time was had by all.

And that was especially the case for members of the Heritage Project’s Steering Group.

They received a trophy for all the hard work they had put in making the scheme a tremendous success.

Sadly, two key members of the team were not present to receive the accolades, so it is fitting to mention Keith Burhouse and David Gronow here, and thank them for all their hard work.

In addition to the ever-growing website (www.HuddersfieldRLHeritage.co.uk) , collectors cards, exhibitions, and heritage walks, two books will soon be hitting the bookstands.

Huddersfield in World War One will be available in November. It looks at the lives of Huddersfield people during that horrendous period.

Then there is a history of Huddersfield C&AC from its inception through to the modern day. Most, if not all, of what will be published has never before appeared in a book.

Many hours of research have gone into the writing of both books and you will soon be able to pre-purchase them via the website. We’ll keep you posted.

The Masters Rugby Match at Laund Hill was another success. A thoroughly entertaining game saw our ex-players beat near neighbours Boothtown, Halifax.

Our starting 13 are now beginning to look quite an accomplished rugby side! Their continued peak fitness ensured that 14th man Tony Johnson did not have to reveal the fact that he had his boots with him – carefully concealed in a plastic bag which he kept a firm grip of!

Huddersfield YMCA are keen to hold regular Masters games on Friday evenings under floodlights. Tony is working extremely hard to find opponents for his men to play – and finding enough ex-Fartowners to enable his own boots to stay mud free!

Whilst there has not been a flood of people wanting to join our next committee, there has been quite a few enquiries. Perhaps you could find a position of power to hold? Nominations can be made via any member (forms are available at Turnbridge WMC) or online: http://www.giantssupporters.co.uk/Forms/AGM%20Nominations.html
