Some disappointing news to kick-off proceedings.
Due to an outbreak of Reindalious flu, Santa has, unfortunately, had to keep his reindeer in isolation in order to ensure that they are fit for the big event.
Consequently, we have reluctantly decided to postpone this year’s Reindeer Race Night until early 2015.
It is a while since we talked about the Heritage Project, so here is an update.
Many man hours of research have finally reached fruition. ‘Huddersfield In World War 1’ is about to hit the bookshelves.
To be more precise, next Monday, December 15, sees the launch of this superb book. So, head down to the University’s Heritage Quay for 6.30pm with £15 in your pocket and come away with a history of how Huddersfield coped with life 100 years ago.
Should you be unable to attend next Monday you can buy the book online at www.HuddersfieldRLHeritage.co.uk .
If you cannot do either, contact David Thorpe on 01484 533378 and he will make arrangements for you to purchase the book.
There are still a few Collectors Cards available. Follow one of the above three routes to purchase them.
The team is currently putting the final touches to another book all about the history of Huddersfield RLFC. The vast majority of this book will contain never-before published material. Its release will be in January.
Speaking of January, that is when the Project officially ends.
However, the core of the team which has worked so tirelessly over the past two years is keen that what has been achieved is built upon.
There are various ideas in the pipeline. However, it all hinges on YOU!
Work commitments and health challenges, in addition to the untimely loss of stalwarts Keith Burhouse and David Gronow, have depleted the original working party to such an extent that new members are actively being sought.
Opportunities are there for people to be dynamic members, leading the project onwards and upwards. Help is also required for those of you who do not want to attend meetings, but are quite prepared to work behind the scenes.
The sad truth is that if people do not come forward, all that has been achieved in the last two years will simply stagnate.
Come on. We are not only the birthplace of Rugby League, we are not only one of the oldest rugby clubs in the country, we are one of the oldest football clubs in the country.
Something to be proud of.
Keep our heritage alive.
