With Bradford being relegated on Sunday, what are your memories of life in the Northern Ford Premiership back in 2002?

Is it the mere fact we went through the whole season unbeaten in the league? Only Whitehaven took a point off us in a 12–12 draw at the Recreation Ground.

Along the way the team accumulated 1,156 points to equal the record for points in a league season achieved in eight more games by Leigh.

What about being the clear favourites in the Challenge Cup match at Belle Vue where Doncaster beat us 30–10? Not many of us will have seen that match, though, such was the fog that day!

We achieved the double, with the Buddies Cup won at Post Office Road, when we completely outclassed Hull KR 32–6, with club favourite Stanley Gene being sent off for something and nothing!

Our captain for the season was one Steve McNamara. Yes, we nurtured the England coach!

Do you remember when Hefin O’Hare picked the ball up on our line? How people didn’t have a heart attack when he passed the ball 30-40 yards inside to the full-back I’ll never know.

Rumour has it that Tony Smith played big Eorl at centre to teach him how to pass. How true it is, we’ll leave it for Eorl to say.

And the best is last. That wonderful night in Widnes in the NFP Grand Final when it finished Huddersfield Giants 38 Leigh Centurions 16. And to cap it all, THAT try. Stanley’s trademark somersault. Brilliant!

Anyway, back to the present.
