HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS players are having the festive week off – but it will be no holiday.

Coach Paul Anderson says the squad have earned a break from the daily routine having met their Christmas targets on fitness and strength conditioning.

Each player has a personal programme to follow over the next week, however, and then preparations will begin in earnest for the first pre-season workout.

That comes against St Helens at Langtree Park on Friday, January 11, and Saints also provide the opposition for the Giants first match of Super League XVIII on February 2.

By then, Anderson is confident his squad will be firing on all cylinders after what will have been a long build-up.

“We started training ahead of schedule on November 5, so a lot of work has already been put in,” said Anderson.

“The lads have all been tested and we are where we wanted to be in terms of pre-season, so we’ll have this short break and then get straight back to the work.”

According to head conditioner Greg Brown, Luke Robinson, Scott Grix, Danny Brough and Jamie Cording are doing superbly in the fitness stakes, while the strongmen of the squad are Anthony Mullally and Jason Chan.
