Huddersfield Giants chief Paul Anderson has told his players they have to take every chance that comes their way against Wigan – or miss out on their Super League Grand Final dream.

Huddersfield were desperately unlucky to suffer a heartbreaking 20-16 home defeat to Leeds Rhinos on Friday night, when they were sunk by a last-second Ryan Hall try.

Anderson felt his side were on the wrong end of some tough refereeing calls from Robert Hicks late in the game, which gave the Rhinos the chance to fight back from a 16-8 deficit with seven minutes remaining to steal the League points and a home play-off tie and League Leaders Shield in the process.

But the Giants chief knows it shouldn’t have come down to this.

“In the final analysis, Leeds created four chances and took three of them, the last of which came from a kick for the Hall try,” said Anderson.

“We created seven chances and only took two of those.

“At this level, if you want to be successful you have to make sure you make the most of the opportunities that come your way.

“We didn’t do that against Leeds, and we’ve got to make sure we learn that lesson from the other night and make sure there’s no repeat at Wigan.”
