Hooker Leeming and scrum half Miller both stood up well in the face of strong competition and got plenty of minutes under their belt.
And John Smith’s Stadium chief Anderson knows the experience will do them a power of good.
“We’ve got a lot of time for these two, and their call-ups last week were a reward for what they’ve been doing in pre-season and the way they played for the 18s last year,” said Anderson.
“We were keen to give them a taste of what we do and what’s expected of them when they enter the first-team environment.
“By giving them this experience now, it shouldn’t be as big a shock to them if – and when – they do get a first-team call-up further down the line.
“They also didn’t let anyone down when they got their chance the other night, and I hope that’s done their confidence a power of good.”
As well as the two talented Under 18s, the likes of Jake Connor, Nathan Mason and Peter Aspinall also got the chance to play alongside senior players for the first time following their promotion to the Super League squad.
“It was also a big night for these boys, too,” added Anderson.
“And they could also be pleased with the efforts they put in.
“We do have some very talented young players at our club, and we should all be very proud of that fact.”
