Huddersfield Giants loan player Jack Hughes will remain in Cheshire next year after accepting an offer to join Warrington Wolves.

The 23-year-old second row will finish the Super 8s at the John Smith’s Stadium before moving to the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Giants Managing Director Richard Thewlis paid tribute to Hughes, who remains a key part of coach Paul Anderson’s squad as they look towards Friday’s home match against Catalans Dragons and eventually qualifying for the Grand Final.

He said: “Jack has consistently been in our top performers all season and it’s clearly a blow to us that he is not staying on for the longer term.

“The reality, sadly though, is that the hours on the M62 have taken their toll and he wanted to be nearer his home and family.

“We had wished to keep him in the claret and gold and have an excellent relationship with him and his manager, however we fully understand and respect his reasons for taking the Wolves’ offer.

“He has been excellent for us and I am sure will want to keep his form going and finish the season on a high here.

“We gave him an opportunity to play regular Super league, which he grasped with both hands, and his leaving now presents another opportunity within the squad for someone to do as Jack has done and cement a place in our back row.”
