RYAN HUDSON will return from the rugby league wilderness in the Giants' pre-season clash against Wigan later this month.

It will be the 27-year-old utility forward's first game for two years following a drugs ban.

His suspension comes to an end on the weekend Huddersfield entertain the Warriors at the Galpharm on Sunday, January 21 (3.00).

The Giants were initially unclear as to whether Hudson, right, would be clear to play and contacted the Rugby Football League before Christmas asking for clarification.

The RFL have now confirmed his suspension officially ends on January 20 and he can resume his career against Wigan the following day.

And that's a big boost for Giants head coach Jon Sharp, who will now have a full squad at his disposal for his Super League side's first run-out of the year.

"This is tremendous news," said Sharp.

"We initially thought we might have to wait until the Leeds game the following Friday to give Ryan his first run.

"So to be given permission to play him against Wigan is a bonus.

"At this stage, it's impossible to know how much time he'll get.

"He's kept himself very fit, but there's obviously a big difference between that and match fitness. We'll have to see how he goes on the day.

"And I think it's also important to remember that he's not been able to train with the rest of the boys because of his suspension.

"So he's having to get used to all the calls and moves, as well as getting to work with his teammates for the first time.

"It's a big day for him."
