Character valuable weapon!

PROUD Giants coach Jon Sharp believes the character shown by his players at St Helens last night could prove one of their most effective weapons in Super League X.

Sharp watched his side hand the Saints a 16-0 lead inside 13 minutes before mounting a highly spirited comeback.

In the end, Huddersfield lost 34-24, but at one stage had fought back to 28-24 and had a couple of chances to snatch a late lead.

The fact they didn't disappointed Sharp.

But the Great Britain No2 believes there were more than enough signs in last night's display to suggest everything is heading in the right direction.

"We should have won it, it's as simple as that," said Sharp, who is already turning his attention to next Sunday's massive home clash against world club champions Leeds Rhinos.

"At 28-24, we created a couple of chances and if they had been taken we would have been talking about a fantastic Giants victory.

"Obviously, the most disappointing part was the fact we again allowed the opposition to make a dream start through the errors we made.

"We did it against Hull last week, and we did it again last night.

"It's obviously a problem we need to sort out as quickly as possible.

"We've got Leeds at the Galpharm next Sunday, and we clearly can't afford anything similar against them.

"But while I'm disappointed by the sluggish starts, I'm delighted by the character we have shown.

"This side has got some heart, some ticker and that's a quality all good sides need.

"To be successful you need to have some steel in your team, and this team has got it.

"We know we have some massive challenges ahead and last night has again shown everyone that the players will be up for them.

"That character will certainly need to be on show next Sunday."
