Rick Stone has yet to decide what he believes the best long-term Huddersfield Giants role could be for Ryan Brierley.

But in the short term it could remain full-back.

Brierley missed out on the 17 beaten 34-12 in Huddersfield’s opening Middle 8s clash at Salford Red Devils on Sunday to make way for fit-again No1 Scott Grix.

But with the experienced 32-year-old picking up a knock in the opening stages and having to withdraw just before half-time, Brierley could get the nod to take over at home to Featherstone Rovers on Sunday – and give Stone another chance to see what he has to offer as the last line of defence.

“The thinking right now is probably to stick with the two established blokes in Brough and Ellis at half-back,” said Stone.

“But in the long term I’m not quite sure exactly where Ryan will fit in, to be honest.

“There’s no doubt he’s a very talented young player and evolving talent, and if he does play at full-back he’s still got a lot to learn.

“Having said that, he’s still got a bit to learn in the halves, as well.

“But the good thing is that Ryan’s a good, coachable kid who trains hard and is always prepared to go out of his way to keep learning more.”
