HUDDERSFIELD Giants have become the first rugby league club to secure a lucrative boot deal with top Italian manufacturer A-line.

The sports company already supply boots to a number of high-profile Premiership football players and have club deals with Portsmouth and MK Dons.

But this is the first venture into rugby league for A-line, who believe the sport is a growth area.

And the company are confident the Giants will be impressed by the quality of their equipment.

"A-line are hopeful this will be the start of a strong relationship with the Giants," said spokesman Graham Clay.

"The company already has a fantastic reputation back in Italy and they are looking to build on that reputation in England.

"In fact, Italian internationals such as Zola and Festa swore by their A-line boots when they played in the English Premiership and wouldn't dream of wearing anything else.

"And before the Giants signed this deal, Michael De Vere and Brad Drew tried the boots out for size to see if they came up to scratch.

"The word back from them was that the boots were fantastic and that the club shouldn't miss out on the opportunity to sign up.

"Initially, every player in the Super League squad and member of coaching staff is to receive two pairs each, and when they retail at just under £100 a pair, we believe it's a good deal all round."
