HUDDERSFIELD Giants have today bolstered their Super League squad by welcoming back prop Paul Jackson.

The 26-year-old former Giants Academy player returns to the club on a one-year deal after successful top-flight spells at Wakefield and Castleford.

He becomes head coach Jon Sharp's fourth new recruit for Super League X, for which fixtures are out tomorrow, following the signing of Michael De Vere, Brad Drew and Chris Thorman.

Sharp worked with Jackson when he was assistant coach to Andy Kelly at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in 1998 and believes the prop will have a great deal to offer.

"I'm absolutely delighted we've been able to add Paul to our squad," said Sharp.

"I coached him when he was at Wakefield and he is exactly the right player for this club.

"He has a great attitude and is a pleasure to coach.

"He is a good athlete, quick and strong with good feet and he will give us some great go forward.

"There's no question he will complement our pack to perfection. He's just the sort of addition we need right now."

The 6ft, 16st former Stanningley prop began his Super League career at the Giants in 1997 before spending four seasons helping to establish Wakefield as a top-flight force.

He then moved to Castleford Tigers, where he has spent the past two years.

Although the Tigers were keen to retain his services following their relegation from Super League at the end of the season, he was not short of offers to remain in the top flight.

And as soon as the Giants joined the hunt, he had no hesitation in making a return.

Jackson will be working under a coaching team which includes Player Performance manager Chris Plume, who tomorrow brings the curtain down on his student international career when the prop leads out England against the Australian Students in the Test match at Blackheath.
