Confident Jake Connor feels ready to take his Huddersfield Giants Super League career to the next level.

The 21-year-old utility back played at centre in the 30-16 opening-night defeat at St Helens and stand-off in the heartbreaking 18-13 home defeat to Wigan Warriors a week later.

The Halifax-born rising star made valuable contributions in both top-flight encounters.

And having now returned to full fitness after a knee problem plagued him throughout 2015, the former England Youth ace is desperate to kick-on.

“Our opening two results have obviously been disappointing, but I’ve enjoyed being involved in both of them,” said Connor.

“Although my performances have been far from perfect, I’ve felt quite good about the start I’ve made.

“A lot of that is down to the knee surgery I had during the off-season.

“I was back within a month of having the operation – just before last Christmas – and ever since them I’ve felt in great shape.

“I was carrying the knee problem all last year, so I had a few aches and pains, which meant I was a bit restricted in what I could do.

“I’m obviously hoping that’s all behind me now and I can really kick-on and make a regular starting spot my own.”
