Jamie Ellis could be back in Huddersfield Giants contention for Saturday’s Super League trip to Warrington Wolves.

New head coach Rick Stone decided not to risk the 26-year-old half-back in Sunday’s home clash against St Helens because of a slight shoulder problem.

And the Australian is hoping the weekend break will have done Ellis a power of good, as well as hoping prop Craig Huby, back-rower Sebastine Ikahihifo and winger Gene Ormsby will have benefited from getting the Saints game under their belts after spending little time in competitive action over the past few months.

“Jamie was touch and go for the weekend with a little shoulder injury, so we felt it was best to give him the week off to get himself right,” revealed Stone.

“We’ll see how he goes in training this week, and if we all feel he’s okay we’ll make that final call.

“But while I’m sure Jamie will have benefited from the break, I think Craig, Seb and Gene will have benefited from playing.

“It was obviously the first game for a while for Craig (he suffered a shoulder injury in late April) and Seb (a broken jaw in late May) after injury, while Gene hasn’t been able to get any gametime with Warrington recently.

“I thought all three of them did reasonably well at the weekend when you consider the warm conditions and the quality of the opposition, and they’ll definitely benefit from getting back out there in the games ahead.”
