JERMAINE McGILLVARY is the big mover for the Giants in their 2012 Super League squad.

Having worn the No20 shirt last season, the 23-year-old Huddersfield-born winger has taken over at No5 from the departed David Hodgson.

It’s hardly the biggest shock in the world, with McGillvary having taken last season by storm to establish him as the Giants’ first-choice Super League winger.

But it is a further sign of the progress McGillvary is continuing to make after finishing last season as Super League’s official Rookie of the Year.

The explosive flier has been named in a 33-man Giants squad for Super League XVII, with head coach Nathan Brown believing he has the perfect blend of youth and experience.

“We’ve got a good, well-balanced squad, and one that is clearly capable of doing well if everyone performs to their full capability,” said Brown.

“As I’ve always said, when we have a full side on the field we will prove a reasonably formidable team.

“But we’ve also got some depth, with the younger blokes really developing, and we’re confident everyone will be able to make a very valuable contribution.”
