KEVIN BROWN will relish leading out the Giants for the first time in Saturday’s pre-season clash at St Helens and is confident the captaincy will bring the very best out of him.

The England stand-off was named club captain a fortnight ago, taking over from Brett Hodgson, who has moved to Warrington.

Eorl Crabtree was team leader for the day when Huddersfield beat Hull KR 18-10 in his testimonial clash at the Galpharm Stadium on January 16.

But Brown will be officially pulling the on-field strings for the first time against beaten Super League Grand Finalists Saints in the two clubs’ final warm-up fixture at Widnes – St Helens’ home for the season as they wait for their new stadium to be built – this weekend.

And the former Wigan ace admits it’ll be a proud moment.

“I’ll be absolutely delighted to lead the team out at Saints this weekend,” said Brown.

“Obviously, it was Eorl’s day the other week, which meant he had the honour of being the team leader on that occasion.

“But on Saturday, it’ll be down to me for the first time in the role, and it’s pretty exciting.

“It’s a great honour leading such a great group of lads and to be the captain of such a fantastic club.

“Although there’s a bit more responsibility being captain, I don’t think there’s any added pressure on me, whether it’s for this weekend or the start of the new Super League season.

“As usual, I’ll be trying my best and looking to build on my performances, that’s my main priority.

“But it’ll be good to put things to the test against such strong opposition on Saturday, and I’m really looking forward to be leading that challenge.”
