DURING the course of this season, Kevin Brown has put in some massive displays for us.

He’s one of our main attacking weapons, with his class underlined by the fact he was in the Great Britain squad for last month’s Test against France.

But what are his greatest strengths?

I suppose his decision-making has to be right up there, often choosing the right option to race over for a try or put a colleague through a gap.

However, when it comes to choosing a car, his decision-making seems to fall apart.

Just two weeks ago, he bought a Lexus, which did look pretty decent.

But on Wednesday, a few of the boys – including myself – received frantic calls from the highly unfortunate Kev, below, who was stuck on the M62 after his new pride and joy had broken down.

Fortunately, he was coming across from his home in Wigan on his day off after finally coming to his senses and going in search of a house in the Huddersfield area.

I say ‘fortunately’ because if it had happened on a training day and he turned up late, it probably wouldn’t have gone down too well, even though he did have a valid reason for his lateness.

However, as soon as the call came in, his club captain – ie me – was there to pull him out of the mire and bring him back to base.

Although all his teammates saw the funny side of it, we did feel a bit sorry for Browny, because it spoilt what had been such a good start to the week for us all.

That was obviously because it was the first time in seven games we were able to take part in a match-winning review – and it felt great!

Our victory at Wakefield was one that was achieved the hard way, having to fight back from that 13-0 half-time deficit to triumph, and we were all pretty aggrieved that they were awarded their second try when the tryscorer was clearly in touch when he put the ball over the tryline.

But, in a way, I think that made us all the more determined to come out fighting at the start of the second half.

We adopted a slightly different gameplan, which really came into its own in the second half, and I was delighted my goalkicking ended up making so much difference.

When we started to take complete control I didn’t think my successful kicks would make such a difference but, when I look back at it, that one touchline conversion I landed counted for an awful amount.

Such kicks are never easy, particularly when it’s such a wet day and the vociferous Wakefield fans are right on your back.

But I did feel I was striking the ball pretty well, which was really pleasing seeing as I haven’t been doing much practice in recent weeks because of my knee injury.

I just hope my goalkicking proves just as accurate tomorrow when we face Harlequins, but that the margin of our victory is more than just one point!
