ROBBIE PAUL believes the Giants can go one step further than last year and win the Challenge Cup!

The rugby league legend played a major role as Huddersfield reached the final for the first time in 44 years in 2006.

There was disappointment as the Giants were beaten 42-12 by St Helens at Twickenham.

But Paul feels the team are now far better equipped to deal with such a big occasion, and he is desperate to prove it - although there's the small matter of Salford in round five first!

"We can't really afford to look too far ahead just yet, because we know tomorrow's tie at Salford is going to be very tough," said the 31-year-old New Zealand star.

"But I honestly believe we now have a squad not only capable of reaching the final once again, but going one step further and actually winning it.

"We have shown we have the ability and desire to build on what we achieved last season, and that's exactly what we intend to do.

"We're obviously aware we could fall into the trap of getting too carried away, but we feel we're too experienced for that.

"What we are doing is playing with confidence and a knowledge that we are doing the right things.

"I just hope we can continue our climb up Super League and get as far as we possibly can in the cup."

Even though the Giants face opponents who are languishing at the foot of the Super League table, Paul has sounded a note of caution.

"Salford are exactly where we were just over a month ago," he added. "The catalyst for our rise was our Challenge Cup win over York, and I'm sure Salford will have noted what it did for us. I think they'll be determined to see the same happen for them."
