NEW signing Michael Korkidas is convinced a move to the Giants will help get his Super League career back on track.

The 27-year-old Australian prop yesterday agreed a three-year deal after sorting a release from Castleford.

By his own admission, the move to the Tigers proved unsuccessful.

But he is convinced that a switch to Huddersfield will help him get back to the form he showed during a successful four-year stint at Wakefield.

“After the way things turned out at Cas, I feel I’ve got to prove myself again in the competition,” said Korkidas, pictured, who began his professional career at top Australian NRL club Sydney City Roosters.

“I see this move to Huddersfield as a fresh start and the chance for me to get back to how I know I can play.

“I know it’s not going to be easy getting a regular place in the side, because there are already some quality props here.

“But that’s something I’m sure will help bring the best out of me.

“As I said, I see this move as the chance to get my career back on track, and if I don’t work hard from the start I know that won’t happen.

“In Eorl Crabtree, Darrell Griffin, Paul Jackson and Keith Mason, the Giants have four great props.

“And I know that only my very best will be good enough to get ahead of them in the pecking order. That’s the challenge I face and, to be honest, it’s one I’m looking forward to.”

He added: “I’m very good mates with Griff from the time we played together at Wakefield, and he can’t speak more highly about the place.

“He believes his game has come on leaps and bounds at the club, and particularly since Paul Anderson joined the coaching staff.

“Paul’s obviously one of the best props there’s been in the Super League era, and from speaking with him it’s clear he’s going to be a great person to learn off.

“I would love to think Paul will help give me that extra edge, so I can prove the doubters wrong and I can help the Giants get back into the play-offs.”

But as well as looking forward to working with Anderson, the 6ft 3in, 17st Korkidas is relishing the chance to finally link up with new Giants head coach Nathan Brown.

“Nathan tried to persuade me to join him at St George when I was at the Roosters,” added Korkidas.

“I have to admit, I was tempted, but I ended up at Wakefield instead.

“But seven years later we’re finally joining forces. I can’t wait!”
