Kyle Wood is leading the race to be the first of the Huddersfield Giants’ three long-term injured players to return to action.

Giants chief Paul Anderson has hinted the half-back or hooker could be included in the predominantly Under 19s clash at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Friday (1.30).

Wood has been sidelined since he suffered a serious knee injury in last year’s home Super League clash against Catalan Dragons on July 27.

But while Scott Grix (shoulder) and Michael Lawrence (wrist) may not be considered as they continue their long road back from rehabilitation, Wood might.

“We’ve already got an idea who might play on Friday,” said Anderson.

“We’ll be looking at the young fellas in the senior squad who still qualify for the 19s, along with one or two people who didn’t play at Halifax.

“And we’ll also make a call on whether and of the rehab boys are ready to play.

“At this stage I’d say Kyle Wood might be close.”
