Kyle Wood is hoping his blossoming hooker partnership with Ryan Hinchcliffe will lead to more Huddersfield Giants’ Middle 8s success.

The in-form Wood came off the bench to devastating effect in Sunday’s 62-16 11-try home destruction of Championship club Featherstone Rovers as the Giants got their bid to secure Super League survival off the mark at the second attempt.

And Wood is determined to build on that big win at Batley Bulldogs on Sunday and make it two Super 8s Qualifiers successes out of three following the 34-12 opening defeat at Salford Red Devils the previous week.

“I’m really enjoying my current role, and I’ll enjoy it even more if it brings us more wins,” said Wood, who scored twice in the triumph over Rovers.

“I’m pleased with the way I’m playing and I’m also really pleased with the way it’s working between me and Hinchy in the hooker role.

“He does a great job for us at the start when the game is at its hardest physically. Hinchy’s really good with the kick-pressure, the chase and the line speed, and he also tackles very well.

“In other words, he does all the initial hard work for me, so that when I come on I can try and exploit any gaps in a tiring defence.

“I love running out of dummy half to try and get us playing on the front foot, and hopefully now we’ve got some confidence out of this big win over Featherstone that’s something I’ll be able to do even more.”
