LARNE PATRICK feels the Huddersfield Giants owe it to the fans – and new coach Paul Anderson – to get back to their best Super League form as quickly as possible.
The Anderson regime opened with a bitterly- disappointing 35-14 home defeat to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Sunday.
It was the Giants’ eighth defeat in nine top-flight games and hardly the ideal preparation for Sunday’s trip to in-form St Helens.
But Patrick has revealed the players are desperate to do what they can to help Anderson turn things around before the Giants slip out of the Super League play-off race.
“These last few months have been really tough for everyone,” said the 23-year-old forward.
“Before, we were flying high at the top of the table, but now we’re battling to keep in the top eight, and that hurts.
“We’d all hoped last week’s change of coach (with former boss Nathan Brown having departed) would immediately help change our fortunes, because it did help spark up training.
“Obviously that didn’t happen, and that added to the sense of bitter disappointment we all felt on Sunday.
“As a squad, we’re all desperate to turn things around for Baloo (Anderson) and the fans as much as for ourselves.
“We fully intended to turn up on Sunday, have a really good dig and start to put things back on track.We only have ourselves to blame for that not happening already.
“It’s in our own hands.”
