MICHAEL LAWRENCE is to become a Huddersfield Giants’ Super League player.

The former Newsome Panther has been promoted to the first-team squad after impressing in the club’s Academy set-up.

The 17-year-old Huddersfield-born utility back will remain part-time for the rest of this season as he continues studying for a BTec National Diploma in Sports Science at Huddersfield New College.

But he will become an official Super League player for the start of 2008, with head coach Jon Sharp predicting he will have a big future in the game.

“I’m really excited about Michael and what he has to offer,’’ said Sharp.

“As far as I’m concerned, he has Super League player stamped all over him.

“He’s got a bit of the ‘X-factor’ about him, and is capable of doing things I’ve not seen in a youngster of this age before. He’s a great talent.’’
