GREAT Britain star Leon Pryce will launch rugby league for tots in Huddersfield on Monday.

The St Helens player will at the YMCA on New Street, Milnsbridge, to meet youngsters turning up for a taster of rugby league.

The free session is aimed at three to seven-year-olds and is being organised in conjunction with Prokids Rugby Tots.

Organiser Kevin Bower explained: “As things stand if a youngster wants to play rugby then they start at seven with a view to playing with an Under 8s team.

“In the south the rugby union have been running sessions for the three to seven age group and this is probably the first event of its type north of Birmingham looking to involve younger children.

“It is all about having fun and playing a few games, parents needn’t worry as we will be using sponge rugby balls, and it is all about getting the kids involved.”

The event will start at 4pm and runs for an hour with two mini sessions.

“Everyone is welcome and can drop in at any time during the hour and get a taste of the scheme,” said Bower.

“We are hoping that if it proves popular we will be able to go on and run sessions at ‘after school’ clubs around the area – we just need to see what interest there is.”

While parents and their youngsters are free to just turn up, the organisers are keen to get an idea of the numbers interested and further details are also available by ringing Kevin Bower on 07542-215995.
