THANK goodness Wakefield’s second try didn’t give them the victory over the Giants last weekend.
When Peter Fox touched down from Ben Jeffries’ kick, it was clear to all the Huddersfield players standing nearby that the winger was in touch.
Unfortunately, the touchjudge, who was right on the spot, failed to pick it up.
No blame at all could really be attached to referee Steve Ganson, right, for not ruling out the score. It’s for occasions just like this that the men with the flag are there.
But this was just the latest example of why video referees should be on duty at all Super League games.
It’s safe to assume that if the game had been covered on Sky TV, or at a home Catalans Dragons match where all games have a video referee, Ganson would have gone to the screen.
If that had been the case, the try would have been disallowed and the final scoreline may have been completely different.
And until video referees are on duty at all top-flight fixtures, then it won’t be a totally level playing field.
