LUKE GEORGE can’t wait to make his senior Huddersfield Giants debut.

The 24-year-old Huddersfield-born back is expected to start on the wing in Friday’s pre-season clash at Castleford (8.00).

It will be the first time George, who moved from Wakefield to the Galpharm at the end of last season, will wear the claret and gold at first-team level.

And the former Trinity player admits it’s an exciting prospect.

“When I first played for the Giants at Academy level, I dreamed of playing in the first team,” said George.

“After all, this was my hometown team and I always thought how proud I’d feel if it ever happened.

“Unfortunately, I’ve had to wait a long time for that day to finally arrive, but now it’s nearly here

“As a result, I know Friday’s going to feel pretty special.

“I don’t think I’ll feel nervous. I think I’ll be excited more than anything, and that’s because I know I’m going to be part of a top-quality squad.

“We may have our fair share of injuries, but I still expect us to go well.”

George underwent ankle surgery at the end of last season, but that hasn’t prevented him from playing a full role in pre-season training.

And he is sure that will stand him in good stead.

“I’ve really enjoyed training,” he added.

“It’s been incredibly tough and we’ve really been put through it over the past couple of months.

“But we feel ready to play, and we’re hopeful all this hard work will be reflected in our performance on Friday.”
