JACOB FAIRBANK has admitted that with a year remaining on his Huddersfield Giants contract this season could be make or break with him.

Fairbank spent most of last season on loan at Championship outfit Halifax, but he returns to the Giants setup with a squad already full of quality.

With this in mind the versatile Fairbank knows he has to hit the ground running.

“I’m in my last year of my contract, so I obviously need a new one. A few good games in the first team and consistent training sessions would really help my cause.” said Fairbank.

The 21-year old’s time at Halifax was certainly impressive as he became an ever present for the Shay outfit, playing a key role in their victory in the Northern Rail Cup Final.

Fairbank thinks that nearly a full season at The Shay can only have helped him, and with Giants coach Nathan Brown being around in attendance he had made a positive impression.

“Yes he’s kept tabs on me last season and watched me in training, but overall he’s really pleased with me.” Fairbank added.

“I think that it’s a big opportunity lost if you fail to impress your coach so I always made sure I stepped up a gear.”

Fairbank however has total faith in his own ability and feels he has what it takes to earn himself that all important new contract.

“I think I have what it takes to get out there and show what I’m about and impress for that new contract.”
