AFTER last Saturday’s awful game against Catalans Dragons, the general feeling among the players was that we couldn’t wait to get back out on the field and try and put things right.

The only problem, of course, is that we’re having to wait three weeks to get the horrible memories of our French trip out of our systems.

That’s clearly a very long time to dwell on a performance like this, and we’re already counting the days to our next Super League game at Wakefield on June 15.

By then we have to make sure we’ve come up with the right answers as to why we under-performed so badly in Perpignan and prove to everyone that the performance that day was simply a one-off.

It goes without saying that It’s something we’re desperate to do, because we certainly don’t want a repeat of France again!

I can’t remember the last time we felt so low as a group at the end of a game.

We know we let everyone down with the way we played, and that only us, the players, can really put it right.

To be honest, I was pretty embarrassed by it all.

It was particularly embarrassing because this terrible display had taken place in front of a very strong Huddersfield following.

And I’m afraid that included my mum and dad, along with my godmother, who was watching me play for the first time in a very long while. I haven’t dared speak to her since!

It was bad enough to concede 48 points on the night, but what really hurt was being nilled at the same time. As far as we’re concerned, to be nilled is an insult to your rugby league ability.

We hate losing at the best of times, but to lose without troubling the scoreboard is as bad as it gets!

It’s a blow to everyone’s confidence, and I hope it doesn’t have a detrimental effect, in particular, on Michael Lawrence and Leroy Cudjoe, our youngest squad members.

Neither of them could be held responsible for what happened that night, and I hope that in time they will benefit from the whole Catalans ‘experience’.

And in ‘experience’ I also mean travelling abroad to play.

This was only Michael’s second time on an aeroplane, while the first time Leroy had jetted off anywhere was on last year’s pre-season trip to Portugal.

So, this fixture was always going to be pretty daunting for these two, whatever the circumstances, and I’m sure that in the future it will stand them both in pretty good stead.
