MARTIN ASPINWALL has left the Giants.

The 28-year-old former Great Britain winger, who is currently on the sidelines with a groin injury, has been told he will not be offered a new contract next season.

And with no sign of Aspinwall making a return from injury in the next few weeks, it has been agreed he can leave Huddersfield with immediate effect.

During his five years at the Giants, he has played in two Challenge Cup finals and toured with Great Britain, and admits he is leaving with very fond memories.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my five years at Huddersfield and have some great memories,” said Aspinwall, right.

“I left Wigan to come here and went on to play for England during my time here and appeared in two Cup Finals, which are the clear highlights for me.

“I’ve known for a while that I would be moving on and was wanting a big end to the year, but that’s not to be and it will be better that my body gets much-needed rest and recuperation ahead of a big pre-season with a new club.”

And Giants managing director Richard Thewlis admits he’s disappointed to see Aspinwall move on.

“Martin has been a good player for us over a number of years now,” he said.

“But with the emergence of players such as Leroy Cudjoe and Jermaine McGillvary on the wing and Larne Patrick and Jacob Fairbank in the back row area, along with the marquee signing of Luke O Donnell, which had been planned for a good while, we informed Martin’s manager some time ago that we would not be able to offer a suitable contract for the 2011 campaign.

“This is a scenario that will happen at every club who has good young players pushing for first-team contracts and is, to some degree, what the salary cap is all about in that it evens up the distribution of talent.

“Martin will be a fine acquisition for any club and he leaves with our very best wishes and sadness that we lose such a good player.”
