GIANTS chief Richard Thewlis is to meet with all three of his Australian ‘signings’ during his time Down Under with the Scotland World Cup squad.

Huddersfield’s managing director last night jetted off to Sydney with the Scots in his role as general manager.

And Thewlis has revealed one of his first tasks when he touches down is to meet new head coach Nathan Brown and top signings Brett Hodgson and Todd Carney.

“It makes sense to touch base with everyone while I’m there,” said Thewlis.

“Nathan and Brett are both in Sydney and I’m sure we’ll all have plenty to talk about, which is easier done face-to-face than over the phone.

“Nathan remains keen to add to the 2009 squad at first-grade level and we hope to tie something up when we can get round the table together.

“From Brett’s e-mail correspondence and phone calls, it’s clear he’s really raring to go. Clearly he’s a key figure for us going forward and his wife and young family are keen to learn as much about Huddersfield ahead of their arrival here.

“In terms of Todd, he is out in Rwanda doing charity work at the moment but will be back in Canberra in a week or so, and I intend to catch up with him then.

“He’s desperate to get across here, but contracts don’t start until December 1, so it’s a fairly frustrating time for him.

“But I’m sure the work in Africa will have given him a different perspective and view on many things.

“In addition, it’s important as a club we are seen in the right environments for elite players, and that stage doesn’t come much bigger than the World Cup.

“It seems as if the entire rugby league network is congregating in Sydney, so again I will make the necessary contacts and keep up to speed with all the developments that will, hopefully, continue to keep us at the forefront of minds if overseas moves are being considered by quality players.”
