MICHAEL KORKIDAS is hoping his performance against Celtic Crusaders at Magic Weekend is a taste of things to come.

The Australian prop’s chances at the Giants have been limited due to the form of fellow front-rowers Eorl Crabtree, Darrell Griffin, Paul Jackson and Keith Mason.

But Korkidas, who arrived from Castleford at the end of last season, got the nod at Murrayfield ahead of Griffin, and marked the occasion by scoring his first try for the club.

And he is now hoping he has done enough to hold onto his spot for next Sunday’s home Carnegie Challenge Cup fifth-round clash against Rochdale Hornets.

“The first few months here have obviously been very frustrating for me,” said the powerful Australian.

“After such a disappointing season at Castleford last season, I was desperate to get going here.

“As everyone knows, it can be really frustrating playing Under 21s week after week, because everyone wants to be playing Super League.

“I can understand why my chances have been limited, because we’ve got some great props here, and they’ve been playing very well all year.

“But, to be honest, that’s only a minor consolation.

“I know I’m having to be patient, and I hope this is the chance for me to finally establish myself in the side.

“Browny showed faith in me by signing me and then showed faith in me by picking me this weekend.

“I hope I’ve done enough to repay him this weekend.”

By his own admission, Korkidas was well down on his match fitness when he arrived at the Galpharm.

But he knows that the more game time he gets under his belt, the more benefit he can be to the team.

“I’ve being doing a lot of work with Bumper (head conditioner Mark Andrews) and I feel that’s been paying off,” he added.

“I now just want to get the chance to prove what I can do for the team at Super League level.”
