GIANTS star Andy Raleigh admits Mother’s Day is playing second fiddle to tomorrow’s Super League clash against Harlequins at the Galpharm.

But, fortunately, mum Eileen fully understands – even though her son won’t be playing because of a finger dislocation.

“Rugby is a really big thing for all the family,” explains a very understanding Eileen, a maths teacher at Royds Hall.

“At this time of the year there’s usually a match to watch, so we arrange to go out for a meal to celebrate Mother’s Day on another evening, and we’re happy with that.

“Rugby league is a wonderful sport and it’s wonderful to be part of such a family thing.

“We rarely miss a game and have been to London, France ... all over.

“Wherever we’ve been people have been so welcoming. Rugby league fans are the salt of the earth.”

But to make sure Eileen didn’t have to wait until after tomorrow for a Mother’s Day treat, Super League sponsors, engage, dropped off a bottle of champagne at the Raleigh home so the family could celebrate in some style.
