NATHAN BROWN believes the versatility of Scott Grix could hold the key to his success at the Giants.

The 25-year-old has today been confirmed as Huddersfield’s fourth signing for Super League XV after arriving on a new two-year contract from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

During his time at Belle Vue, the Ireland captain, pictured right, has played in a variety of positions, including half-back, full-back, wing and hooker.

And Brown admits that was a major factor in his decision to welcome him on board at the Galpharm.

“He’s a very versatile player, there’s no doubt about that,” said Brown.

“If you look back at the positions he’s played and how well he’s handled them it makes you keep an open mind about which he is best suited to.

“What we want is a squad where there is genuine competition for places throughout, so to have a guy who has played one, six, seven, nine and 13 in the past will be great for us. He definitely gives the squad a more rounded and deeper look to it.

“I have watched him in the World Cup and this last season and I like his enthusiasm and desire, and from meeting him he really wants to continue to improve his game, which hopefully in our environment he can do.”

Although Grix will not be an official Giants player until November and will be the Ireland captain for this autumn’s Test series, he has already begun his fitness work with the club under head conditioner Mark Andrews.

And the Australian fitness chief is encouraged by what he has seen so far.

“I’ve had him down at the gym to get a baseline to where his fitness is at,” reported Andrews.

“There’s no doubt he’s very professional. He does everything you ask of him and he does it well.

“He’s already shown me he’s a good athlete and, hopefully, he’ll do some very good things for the club over the next couple of years.”
