DELIGHTED Giants head coach Jon Sharp is now more convinced than ever that his four new signings will prove big hits in Super League X.

The Huddersfield chief has watched the quality quartet of Michael De Vere, Brad Drew, Paul Jackson and Chris Thorman produce some outstanding work in the first half of the week at the club's Portgual training camp.

Latest arrival De Vere, in particular, is making a very positive impression.

Although the Australian Test centre is still recovering from major knee surgery and will miss the opening games of the season, Giants' medical staff report he is making good progress.

And that is music to Sharp's ears.

"I couldn't be more pleased with the way the four new blokes are settling in," said Sharp.

"You very often find that training camps like the one we're on now are particularly advantageous to newer players.

"This is their opportunity to really get to know the rest of the squad and familiarise themselves with their qualities as players as well as people.

"And they couldn't have adapted any better.

"The more I see of all four of them, the more I know they will prove valuable additions to the squad.

"Obviously, Michael is being monitored very closely to see how his knee injury is healing, and it looks good.

"He's now able to run, twist, step and join in most of the activities with the rest of the squad. It's a positive sign."
