NEW Huddersfield Giants head coach Paul Anderson is today planning to meet with his senior players as Huddersfield begin a Super League life without Nathan Brown.

Former Galpharm chief Brown is joining St Helens as head coach next season and was yesterday released early by the club in the wake of a run of seven defeats in eight top-flight fixtures and Sunday's 33-6 Challenge Cup semi-final defeat against Warrington.

The decision means former Great Britain prop Anderson will take over sooner than expected.

Although his first move is to give the players the day off in order to freshen them up ahead of the run-in to the end of the season, Anderson is looking to meet members of the first-team squad to outline his strategy ahead of his first game in charge at home to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Sunday.

"As you can understand yesterday was a difficult day," said Anderson, who has been Brown' assistant coach for the past three-and-a-half years.

"Players have been given today off and we are now focusing our preparations towards this weekend’s match against Wakefield.  All our efforts are going into this.”
