NEW Giants signing Jamie Simpson is resigned to missing the start of Super League XVI.

Huddersfield open their 2011 campaign with next Saturday’s clash against Warrington in Cardiff as part of Magic Weekend.

With a deal to bring former South Sydney centre Simpson to England only completed on January 14, getting a work permit for the start of the season was always going to be tough.

But all the signs suggest the Australian star’s wait shouldn’t go on too much longer.

"I hope to hear in the very near future. It’s just a shame it’s not before the start of the season," said the 24-year-old.

"I’ve been following the team in the run-up to the new season and hear they’ve done really well.

"It’s just a pity the games haven’t been televised so I could watch them in action.

"I did see some of their games last season on TV so I know some of the players, and I can’t wait to link up with them.

"I’ve been training for weeks with South Sydney to keep myself in shape, but I finished last week to take off around Queensland to see my family before I fly over to the UK.

"I just want to hit the ground running"
