LEE GILMOUR will join the Giants for pre-season training for the first time on Monday.

With the 31-year-old back-row forward’s season having not come to an end until former club St Helens’ Super League Grand Final defeat at the hands of Leeds Rhinos on October 10, Gilmour was allowed to miss the first official week of work.

But head coach Nathan Brown is looking forward to welcoming his new man, and is confident the former Great Britain international will waste little time making a positive impression.

“Gilly’s already been checked over by us and will be here on Monday,” said Brown, who is also expected to be joined by fellow new recruit, New Zealand Test back-rower David Fa’alogo, before the end of the month.

“And that’s something to look forward to. He’s a vastly-experienced player and been a winner throughout his career, so we obviously hope he can carry that on here!

“It’s always exciting to see a new player arrive, and that’s certainly been the case with Scott Grix (the Giants’ utility signing from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats).

“Because of the way things have worked out, Grixy was the only new player to join us on day one of pre-season training.

“But he’s fitted in well, as you’d expect, because you’d always like to think you’re bringing in decent people, and Grixy is definitely in that mould.”
