GIANTS chief Nathan Brown has confirmed new loan man Lee Mossop is in strong contention to make his debut in Sunday’s Super League clash at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.

And the Wigan Warriors second-rower could be joined by Michael Lawrence, who was 18th man against Salford on Sunday after a two-try display against the City Reds in last weekend’s 56-10 Reserve Team Championship triumph.

Brown is expected to make changes to his senior squad after they suffered that 24-4 top-flight defeat to Salford at the Galpharm.

The Huddersfield chief is desperate for his side to re-discover their excellent early-season form, and he hopes the arrival of the 20-year-old Mossop (right) – and the potential return of Lawrence – will provide the spark.

“Lee is a player we have a high opinion of,” said Brown, who has been chasing Mossop for a couple of weeks.

“He is a good-size young lad and a player who can definitely go forward.

“He has nice footwork and can play in the middle and on the edge, and I have no doubt he is a player who can improve our squad and add some depth to it.

“Fortunately for us, the Wigan chairman, Ian Lenagan, has allowed the kid an opportunity to join us. Hopefully, after this month, things will go well and we can look at keeping him on to the end of the year and he can go back to Wigan a more experienced Super League player.

“But, in the immediate future, he’ll certainly be in the squad this week for our game against Wakefield.”

That’s also expected to be the case with the 19-year-old Lawrence, who scored two of the 10 tries as Paul Cook’s reserve side ran riot against the City Reds.

Keal Carlile also scored twice to celebrate making his first-team debut in the Challenge up win over Rochdale the week before, while Tommy Griffiths, Greg Johnson, Alex Brown, Tom Burton Nathan Chappell and Kieron Murphy also scored.

Josh Griffin – another to have made his senior debut in the win over the Hornets – showed his goalkicking ability with eight excellent successes, and the man-of-the-match was prop Adam Walker.
