In-form Oliver Roberts knows the Huddersfield Giants must forget all about their Salford woes and come out firing at home to Featherstone Rovers on Sunday.
Huddersfield opened their Middle 8s Super League campaign with Sunday’s demoralising 34-12 defeat at Salford Red Devils.
It was a defeat that immediately heightened the pressure on the Giants to finish in the top three and gain an automatic Super League spot for 2017.
But back-row forward Roberts is confident that if Huddersfield can re-discover their top form this weekend and blow Championship side Rovers away, they’ll start to gain enough momentum to finish as nightmare 2016 on a positive note.
“We can’t afford to dwell on the events at Salford,” said the 21-year-old, who scored his first Giants senior try in Sunday’s defeat against the Red Devils.
“We all know what went wrong, so it’s up to us as players to make sure we put it right as quickly as possible. We can’t afford to spend any time feeling sorry for ourselves.
“It’s a case of making sure we cut out the errors and cut out the penalties, because we know if we do that then we’ll be far too good for Featherstone.
“Personally, I’ve enjoyed knuckling back down to training and looking forward to getting that first Middle 8s win under our belt this weekend.
“This is our chance to get our challenge up and running and show everyone what we’re still capable of doing.”
