FOR De Vere read Devery.

The names are remarkably similar and so are their rugby league careers.

The individuals in question are, of course, Michael De Vere and Pat Devery, who became a Fartown legend during his time at the club between 1947 and 1954.

And the closeness of their names is just the tip of the iceberg.

For a start, both men are Australian and arrive in Huddersfield having achieved success in their own domestic competition. Devery starred for Balmain, while De Vere was a legend at Brisbane Broncos.

Furthermore, they both signed for the club a year after representing Australia in Test series against Great Britain, Devery in 1946 and DeVere in 2003.

On the field itself, both are world-class centres and established goalkickers.

So now, of course, it's up to De Vere to continue the theme and mirror the outstanding achievements of Devery during his time in the claret and gold.

Devery made his debut up at Workington on October 4, 1947 and signed off at Batley on March 27, 1954.

During his time at Fartown he made 230 appearances, scoring 102 tries and 400 goals for a total of 1,106 points.

And the highlight was obviously the 1953 Challenge Cup at Wembley final when he landed a goal as Huddersfield beat St Helens 15-10.

Now it's over to De Vere to continue the pattern.
