SALFORD believe the Giants pose a big threat to their Challenge Cup ambitions - literally!

City Reds football director Steve Simms admits his side failed to cope with Huddersfield's juggernaut pack at the Galpharm Stadium three weeks ago.

Jon Sharp's side, 32-18 winners in the Super League match, are aiming for a follow-up victory in tomorrow's big quarter-final on home soil (3.00).

Salford, of course, are equally determined to be involved in the semi-final draw, which will take place at the RL Heritage Centre at Huddersfield's George Hotel and be screened live on BBC1 at 7.30am on Tuesday.

As with every rugby contest, the battle of the forwards will be crucial - and Simms is determined Salford match up to their hosts, who will include one-time Willows target Keith Mason.

The Lancastrians enquired about Mason, a Challenge Cup winner with St Helens two seasons ago, when he was in limbo at Castleford earlier this season.

It seems the player was keen on the switch, but Salford got cold feet, allowing Sharp to swoop.

"It would be ironic if Keith had a stormer," agreed Simms.

"Huddersfield certainly have a big pack, but we have to be more concerned about our own players.

"It is a massive game for us. We haven't been in a Challenge Cup final for a long time (1969) and it would give the club a huge boost if we were to win it.

"But first things first, and we are determined to win tomorrow."

* Kick-off for the Giants' Super League game at Warrington on Sunday, July 9, has been brought forward from 3.00 to 12.30 for live Sky Sports coverage.
